‘How KET technologies will revolutionize the packaging world’, a topic on PICK&PACK 2020

The packaging industry and intralogistics are evolving at an extraordinary speed because of the emergence of the Industry 4.0 revolution to assume new challenges.

Barcelona, as one of the most cosmopolitan and innovative European capitals in the sector, celebrated from 12th to 14th February in the CCIB the PICK&PACK exhibition, that held the European Intralogistics Summit 2020 and the National Congress of Packaging 4.0.

PICK&PACK, with an exhibition area of 12,000 sqm was the must-attend appointment for more than 180 international professionals, the best experts and the most competitive to exchange their experiences, products, innovations and knowledge, helping the sector and its businesses to reach the challenges and transform the sector.

PICK&PACK was divided into two different events:

The National Congress of Packaging 4.0 that presented a new vision of the packaging industry, with more functional, sustainable and smart solutions.

The European Intralogistics Summit 2020 that focussed on digitalization of logistics, robotics, automation and intelligent storage systems.

In a highly demanding market where customers demand more sustainable packaging solutions, the sector must work in the line of bioproducts and biodegradable packaging to step towards a more sustainable world.

In this context, during the session about ‘How KET technologies will revolutionize the packaging world’ our Unit Innovation Leader, Elodie Bugnicourt, gave a conference about our contributions in packaging 4.0 throughout the value chain thanks to the application of Biotechnology and Nanotechnology or the Digitisation as the core for advanced and smart manufacturing and Industry 4.0, using PAT technologies to obtain real-time process insights that can be processed by Artificial Intelligence (AI) or the Internet of Things (IoT) to build reliable Decision Support Systems (DSS) and turn data into valuable information.

Elodie also gave examples of some projects that we are working on IRIS such as RefucoatOptiNanoProPulpacktionNemosine or Multicycle, where we have developed innovativesustainable and smart recycling processes integrating advanced PAT solutions for valorising currently non-recyclable complex materials or different bio-based inks, pulp/biopolymer packaging solutions.
